The Rapier Marshal is in charge of educating and overseeing the participation of people in the art of period-style fencing, and makes sure tournaments and practices are run according to SCA policy.

Fighter Practice is held every Wednesday Night at 7:30 PM at Dellview park (barring rain). Dellview park is located at 507 Basswood Dr, San Antonio, TX 78213.

A Note from the Rapier Marshal:
A welcome for newcomers interested in Rapier combat, whether you are completely new to the SCA or are a long term member who is venturing into the realm of combat. As the local rapier marshal, it is exciting to meet new fighters and it is my goal to help your venture into rapier combat safe, easy and enjoyable.

Even if you have previous experience with historic martial arts or modern fencing, I would encourage you to come out to our local fighter practice so that you can get a feel for what Rapier combat in the SCA entails. Our fighter practices are also a great chance to meet many other members and learn more about the Society. The location and time for our regular fighter practices can be found under the calendar link on the main page of this website.

If you find that you wish to pursue the study of Rapier combat, our Barony has loaner gear available at most of our practices to help you as you begin learning to fence. Be advised that fencing is an active sport and you will need to dress appropriately for practices - specifically you will need closed toe shoes, long pants, and an athletic cup if you are a guy. When you are ready to begin acquiring your own gear, we can point you in the right direction of supplies and resources for building your own rapier kit.

Another important resource for new fighters is the Participant's handbook, which has everything you need to know regarding combat of any type in the SCA. If you are specifically interested in rapier combat, you will want to focus on Section 3 of the Participant's Handbook, which is available online here: Ansteorra's Complete Participants Handbook (2008)

Further information on rapier combat can be found in the Rapier Marshal's handbook, which further covers necessary equipment and safety standards. It can be found online here:
